Iain Abernethy is one of the leading exponents of applied karate and kata application (bunkai). Iain is a member of the Combat Hall of Fame and hold a 6th dan black belt with the British Combat Association. His DVDs and books have sold worldwide and have been translated into other languages. Iain is in great demand on the seminar circuit and teaches many seminars on his approach to practical karate both in the UK and overseas. Iain’s club teaches traditional karate with an emphasis on the traditional goal of an effective solution to close-range civilian conflict.

Adaptive Karate teaches 'Traditional Shotokan Karate in it's purest form. The quality of our students education is important to us.

We are a family focused club that professionally and responsibly trains students from ages 6 upwards in traditional Shotokan Karate. We have over 70 registered students. We have students of ages 6 to 52 and grades beginner to 4th Dan black belt. The club is run by Ally Whytock and Karen Whytock.

Colchester Sport Karate is a non-profit club based in the Newtown area of Colchester, and provides safe instruction in Sport Karate to anybody who wishes to learn. Our style is based on traditional Wado Ryu Karate and we have combined this with modern Kickboxing style kicks and punches, and a wide variety of self protection techniques including locks, throws, and grappling to create an effective fighting art. Our classes are challenging but fun, and will help you improve all areas of your fitness, build your confidence and teach you skills to defend yourself - and your family.

Falcon Karate Jutsu as been in existence for 15 years and they teach a curriculum of Shukokai Karate, Traditional and Sport and self defence. At Grove martial arts we teach traditional Oknawan Goju Ryu Karate as the all-encompassing, close in fighting style it was designed to be. We also add effective techniques and drills from other western and eastern martial arts styles and systems. Training is not restricted to stand up fighting, great emphasis is placed on ground fighting, and every effort is made to ensure training is as realistic as it can be whilst maintaining a safe training environment. We don't do competitions or point scoring, all training is geared to the street and tailored to the individual.

Streetwise Fighting Systems is born out of a desire to blend the best of the traditional martial arts with the effectiveness of progressive modern combat methods. Home of Muay Thai and the Mizani Freestyle school of martial arts, born from the teachers passion for Thai Boxing, Ju-Jitsu, Kick Boxing, Freestyle Karate and Kung Fu. Mizani allows for free expression and experimentation and is a constantly developing martial art. The Instructor Gareth Mostyn has been training for over 20 years and currently holds the full Muay Thai rules WKA British title.
